Hey all you crazy Broadway lovin' kids. How are you all doing this Monday morning? I am still trying to come back to reality and fully understand that it isn't a lazy July 4th weekend day any longer. I don't really want to be back at work and makin' my way in the mad mad world. I want to go to a swimming hole and hang out in the sun all day and eat chips and soda and pretend that I never have to work again. But, alas, this is not meant to be and, so, here were are you fans of "The Broadway". If we can't have eternal vacation, well then, at least we have each other. Let's get our B'way on. Guess Who?Kenny Leon (director of the Sean Combs A Raisin in the Sun) will helm the exc...

Burgers, hot dogs, sparklers, and fireworks; I love a nice 4th of July celebration. I hope that all of you are enjoying a little time off from work and spending the weekend with family and friends to ring in the 4th. I wanted to say a qu...

I have so much to write about today - I feel like I am going to explode! It is just one of those days. The sleepy dayz of summer have suddenly disappeared and the theater world in NYC is buzzing. Let's not waste any valuable space today and just get right down to it (that means no childhood antidotes this a.m. - did I hear some of you sigh in relief? Nevermind). Sizzlin' SPFLast night I attended the opening night of SPF (the Summer Play Festival) and the debut of the festival's first show - The Black Suits. Crank up your air conditioning and plug in the ossilating fan, because if this show is any indication SPF is going to be HOT this year!I headed down to the Public Theater last...

It is definitely summer in New York City now. I don't know how things are going in your neck of the woods, but the temperature is rising here in the Big Apple, the smell of sun screen is in the air and tank tops and flip flops are filling the streets. And if I were the kvetching kind, which I am not, I might add that it is beastly hot here. Really really hot. Ugh. But, there is no better way to beat the heat than to pop inside a theater and enjoy some live entertainment. Right? Oh, wait - there is one other way to beat the heat; stay inside your apartment in the air conditioning and surf the World Wide Web and read theater blogs! Yeah! Then let's give you some news/info...

As a young man I received a copy of the Sunday in the Park with George album and it was love at first listen. I was still in high school and living in St. Petersburg, FL. I had never seen the show and I am not sure how I even heard about the Stephen Sondheim musical, but our paths had crossed and I was completely head over heels for the sounds of Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin singing that luminous score. Find anyone who knew me back then and they will tell you that I had a rather strong obsession. I would listen to that record all the time. I had gleamed the major elements of the story from the album jacket or a handy insert (I can't remember really) and created the entire t...

Is Legally Blonde: The Search for the Next Elle Woods the best show on television right now? Yes, right? Snap! OMG! I am completely, 100% addicted. I can't believe I have to wait a whole week until I can get more. Snap! I have a problem.Do I object to replacing Laura Bell Bundy with a reality television show? Absolutely. Snap. Am I breathless with anticipation during every episode on Monday night's? Absolutely. Snap. Call me a freak. Call me a sell-out. Call me crazy. Just don't call me late for Legally Blonde: The Search for the Next Elle Woods (argh argh argh - bad bad joke). Snap.Ok, enough with all the snapping. I am stopping. For those of you who don't watch ...

Let's get this first topic out in the open. Marilyn K (in the comments section) wants to know, rightly so, what the heck is going on with all the spamming in the comments section. Dear Marilyn - I wish I knew!?!? I can assure you that I do not support the website "seeking sugar dot com" nor am I in anyway affiliated with them. I definitely am not getting any sort of "kick back" from these people. The bigger question here is why the folks that run that site think that lovers of "The Broadway" would be a good target audience for their services??? I am baffled by all of it. Seriously - the people that spam comment sections (and it is a pretty prolific practice) get more and more sophi...

With the "good" always comes the "bad". Tonys = good. Shows closing after the Tonys = bad. We had talked a bit about this last week - the likely hood that shows would close after the Tony Awards - and now it has happened. News comes this weeks that two B'way shows will shutter in the coming days and weeks; Cry-Baby and A Catered Affair. End of the AffairA Catered Affair, with music by John Bucchino and a book by Harvey Fierstein, will perform their last vows on July 27th. The show will have marched down the aisle for 27 previews and 116 regular performances, by the time it closes. The star and producer were waxing nostalgic and offer great praise for this little show that made i...

I need an Alka Seltzer or something. My head is still pounding and my stomach hurts. There was so much glamour, so many stars, a ton of excitement - I really over indulged in the Tony smorgasbord! I feel like I am still slowly recovering.I wanted to let everyone know about a little "programming change" here at Two on the Aisle. With the Tony Awards comes the end of the Broadway Season and the beginning of a tiny "Summer Hiatus" for me. I will still be blogging about all the new shows, summer theater treats and inside gossip, but only 3 days a week (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) - beginning today.I will be back tomorrow with more of a Tony wrap up and any news and/or rumors sprea...
