If you happen to be walking down the street today and see a bus full of screaming blonde look-a-likes dressed in pink; don't fear.  This is not a hostile takeover from some bizarre alien culture from a pink planet.  It is a promotional stunt for Legally Blonde and the new Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle Woods reality television show that begins on MTV this coming Monday June 2nd at 10:00pm.

MTV & Legally Blonde are painting NYC pink with a special tour including 50 "Elle Woods" look-a-likes taking over the city on a appropriately pink double decker tour bus.

The gang at Legally Blonde wants you to get involved too; they are encouraging folks to wear all pink or some sort of Legally Blonde attire.

The pink fembots hit the street yesterday and will be at it again today.  You can catch them at 9:45am working their way from the Plaza Hotel to Tiffany & Co. - 57th and 5th Avenue.  Then at 2:45pm they will be at The Palace Theater (home of LB).  From 3:00pm - 6:30pm their will be interviews with the cast and a chance for fans to interact.  And then, if you aren't pink'd out, you can go see the show at 8:00pm!  OMG!

This seems like a fun, if slightly odd, way to promote both the show and the new reality show.  The producers of LB are really pulling out all the stops to make sure this show is a long running hit.  First they aired the show on MTV and now they are going to replace the star of the show with a reality television.  What's next?  Having Kevin Federline star in the show - stop - we already floated that rumor and it turned out to be false?  Too Bad!

The reality show Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle Woods will put talented singer/actress/dancers through the paces in order to coronate a new star who will take over for Laura Bell Bundy (the current Elle Woods on B'way).  The show held auditions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando and Nashville to find the perfect pink powder puff.

I checked out the MTV website for more info.  You can find a clip for the upcoming show and find out who the mentors and judges are.  Did you know that the executive producer and "mentor" for the show is Haylie Duff.  WTF?  People are gonna watch this show.  The judges for the show will be Jerry Mitchell (director of Legally Blonde: The Musical), Paul Canaan (an actor and cast member from Legally Blonde), Heather Hach (the book writer) and Bernie Telsey (a NY casting director).  Jerry has been very busy on TV lately.  Right?  Between his duties on Step It Up and Dance on Bravo and this - when does he find time to direct?  Also, and I can't confirm this, but I think I see Seth Rudetsky in some of the photos for the show (looking like he is music directing the contestants).  I hope that is true - I [heart] Seth.  He is hysterical!

For more info on the reality show you can click HERE.  For more info on the stage version of Legally Blonde click HERE.

All right everyone.  I want you to get your pink gear on and head out to the streets of Manhattan and show your LB spirit. Come on!  You can do it.  It will be super cool.  OMG!  Bend and snap.  You go girl!  (ugh).  Or you can have another cup of coffee and skip it, that is what I will be doing.  Call me a pink-Scrooge.  I can take it.

I also don't have the energy today to discuss the every growing presence of reality television stars and/or contestants in B'way shows.  Is every show going to do this?  What is next?  August: Osage County: The Search for the Next Really Dysfunctional Family?  Hmm.  I think I would actually tune it to watch that.  I can hear the commercial now, "Watch as families battle it out to prove who is the most screwed up.  Which family has the most skeletons in the closet?  Which family is most hated by their neighbors?  Which family can scream at each other the loudest?  The most messed up clan will win a chance to replace the entire cast of August: Osage County on Broadway.  Hosted by David Hasselhoff!"  Sounds good.  Don't ask about the David Hasselhoff reference - I don't know where that came from.

I think the reality thing is a speeding train we won't be able to stop. Should we all just give up and get on board.  I am not sure?

P.S. - I just had to share this with you.  Buried in the press release for all of the pink activities for today - was this gem: "MGM continues its girl empowerment franchise, releasing Legally Blondes, a new movie for the home entertainment marketplace starring Camilla Rosso and Rebecca Rosso as the British twin cousins of Elle Woods who move to Los Angeles to attend high school."  BRITISH TWIN COUSINS of Elle Woods?  WTF? OMG! Help!  Hysterical, right?  Discuss.

  • Wow, so much info, so little space to put it!! I am uber-jealous of all the pink on The Broadway!! I have already DVR'd this bad boy, can't wait. But Haylie Duff, surriously??? How the heavens does she have enough chops to handle this show? Oh, well, makes for good TV. If Paula "trainwreck" Abdul can still be a judge, anyone can. Be careful when you mess with The Hoff, you think Claymates are bad...
