62nd Annual Tony Awards
It is so weird back here. The show is on a screen and we can watch it and listen to it through headphones, but then the winners are on a small stage in front of me and we can ask them questions. Can you believe it? I am going to ask questions. This is all a bit tricky for me, being my first time, I don't quite know where to focus. I am a like a kid in a candy store!
The Cry-Baby number looked FANTASTIC on the show. I wonder if this will help them with ticket sales. The producers are certainly praying for that!
Tony Trivia - someone in the press room said that Catherine Zuber has won FOUR Tonys in a row for Costume Design - she is like the Tiger Woods of Theater Design. Wow.
8:21PM - The show is back on. Whoopi is doing a backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall and is killing with the crowd yelling at Debbie Allen for not casting her in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
8:22PM - Laura Linney looks Ahhh-mazing in a pale pink gown. Very Dangerous Liasons of her.
8:23PM - Oh my gosh - Rondi Reed is here and they are giving the award for Best Featured Actor at the same time and Jim Norton just won from The Seafarer. I am about to explode!
Rondi (we are on a first name basis now) said she turned down her role 4 times in August: Osage County before she finally accepted. Just a note - she looks gorgeous in a black gown with a silver wrap. Very Tony Royalty.
When asked if it will be a bummer not to go back to the show on Tuesday (today was her last performance). She told her agent that she wanted to "win the Tony and then go back to Wicked" - so that is what she is doing!
8:27PM - Passing Strange is doing their number on the show - it is called "Keys". It looks great, but will it sell tickets to middle America. Not so sure.
I am so excited right now that I am about to CRY! I am not even exaggerating! So much for unbiased reportage!
