Who says Broadway isn't ready for something new and exciting? Not the producers of Passing Strange. Last week everyone was saying that Passing Strange wouldn't work on Broadway and no one would go see it. Today they are celebrating over at the Belasco Theater after receiving a pot full of fantastic reviews last night. Passing Strange opened last night after transferring to the Broadway following its well received run downtown at The Public Theater. The show is part rock concert, part musical, part performance art, part indescribable. The show is created by a man named Stew, who is on stage for the entire show narrating and overseeing things as he plays in the band and sings; he w...

You have got to click HERE and check out the new video from the folks at The Little Mermaid. It is fantastic. Disney has put together a new video that shows a ton of footage from the show. You get to see almost the entire "Part of Their World" number (wow, that Seira Boggess can SING!) and long snippets of other parts of the show. Check out the costumes and the sets and see what you think. Go on - you can do it - click HERE. ~ See You On The Aisle...

Word on the street is that Mario Lopez (Saved by the Bell and Dancing with the Stars) is all set to step into the high kickin' cast of Broadway's A Chorus Line. I had earlier reported that Lopez was looking to do a show on the rialto and that he was checking out A Chorus Line. Well, there has been no "official" announcement, but sources say that the deal is inked and he will be taking over the role of Zach in the show. Producers are hoping that the casting will give the show a big boost and help sagging ticket sales. They are betting that fans of Lopez and the tv show Dancing with the Stars will flock to see this revival of Michael Bennett's historical show about dancers auditionin...

Have you been watching this season's American Idol? After vowing to stay away (I didn't think I could take another season of Paula's incoherent rambling, Randy's "Yo Dawg" and Ryan and Simon bickering like lovers - oh my gosh - did I write that - I did!), alas, I have relented. I have been seduced back, namely, by the charms of one teen age boy by the name of David Archuleta. He rocks. After he sang "Imagine" on Tuesday night's episode (click HERE to watch it if you missed it), I thought...let's just end this now and give him the prize. But we can't do that can we. There are a few others I am digging. Brooke White is charming in that Carly Simon sort of way and it was a good ...

This would be big news, if it were big news. Late last night I saw THIS. An article on Yahoo! UK scooping the announcement that Sarah Jessica Parker would be flying into the new London-to-Broadway transfer of Boeing Boeing. I got very ex...

I am talking the big G, here folks - GOSSIP. Dirt. Innuendo. Scandal. I need some, I must have some! There is simply not enough good juicy stuff going on. How can I be a good gossipmonger or tattletale or nosy parker (nice one, eh) if I don't have any good G? It isn't for a lack of digging. No sir. It's just that no one is making any controversy. Where are the cat fights? The affairs? The drinking during matinees! How is a blogger supposed to survive if everyone keeps playing nice? Here is my call to all of you B'way performers, directors, producers, stagehands, creative types, etc. etc....go make some DIRT. Forget about the ART for a minute and make some news I...

I spent last night with a naked man. He's tall, has rock hard abs, not too much hair, very little personality and he is covered in solid gold. I am talking about the Oscar. The statue they give the winners of the Academy Award. What did you think I was talking about? Get your mind out of the gutter. Last night was Academy Award night. I didn't exactly stay awake for all of it, but who can resist the Oscars. I can't. It's long, it's boring, it's predictable, BUT I have to watch it. I love the dresses, the glamour, the moving speeches and the bad production numbers. This year's show did not disappoint on any of the above counts. Red Red RedIt seems like they sent out a...

After my rant yesterday about too much Sondheim on the Broadway; it appears that the Gods of Theater have decided to answer my kvetching with a lightning bolt of RAVES for the new production of Sunday in the Park with George. It is as if the G...

I love Sondheim. Let's just get that out of the way. I adore him and I adore his musicals. Sunday in the Park (which opens tonight in a spectacular new production at The Roundabout) changed my life as a young man and made me realize the potential of theater. I used to listen to my CD of Passion so much that I wore it out. I adored the latest, bloody, film version of Sweeney Todd. I am a fan. An enthusiast. A Sond-o-phile. However, I am beginning to feel overwhelmed. Do we really need another revival of a Stephen Sondheim show on Broadway? Word began leaking yesterday that The Roundabout Theater Company is in plans (some say the deal is already done) to revive Stephen ...
