I love a good celebrity sighting and New York is GREAT for seeing big stars in ordinary situations. It isn't like L.A. where all the celebs are locked inside their BMWs and Mercedes. Here in NYC people walk around and do things. You can...

I have often said that everything I know about life I learned from the television show Fame (of course the movie version was more famous, but I love the television show).  Debbie Allen taught me discipline. Coco Hernandez taught me about determination and risk. Bruno taught me about being true to my heart. Doris taught me that it doesn't matter if you are a schlumpy girl with frizzy hair you can still be a STAR! I watched the show incessantly. I have albums, cds, books, posters, the newly released first 12 episodes on DVD. I am a Fame-fanatic. So needless to say when I got a tip from an industry insider about a movie version, well, I was, like; "Shut up!" That's right reade...

Bono and the Edge. Julie "Lion King" Taymor. Spider-Man. Marilyn Manson I know that these four things don't look like they belong together, but they do. The uber-talented Ms. Taymor (currently blowing audiences away with her new movie musical Across the Universe) and the mega-huge rock star Bono and The Edge have teamed up to bring the legendary super hero Spider-Man to life on a Broadway stage (more on Marilyn Manson later). You may have already heard this bit of news, it was announced several months ago. What you might not have already found out is that this project has kicked into high gear. This is not going to be one of those musicals that languishes in development hell...

Hollywood has gone crazy for movie musicals and it looks like the next Broadway show Tinseltown is going to scoop up is the Tony Award winning musical Spring Awakening. Wow!  Now. This is what they call a rumor. I got a call this a.m. from a very reliable source who told me that this is a done deal and that S.A. will be hitting the big screen asap. No other info. My first thought was; "will the original cast be included or are they all too old now?" My source did not know the answer to that question. I don't have any more details, but if this turns out to be true - just remember where you heard it first! I will keep you updated with any news. When I hear it - you'll hear it!Â...

No, Sally Field is not coming to Broadway, but wouldn't that be AHH-SOME?!? That was a red herring. However, if you keep reading you will get the reference - hopefully. When I worked at Macy's in San Francisco, California I was part of a union. I was pretty young and I hardly knew what I was doing. I just wanted to sell Swatch watches to tourists and collect my paycheck. After a year of working there we almost went out on strike and I thought, "cool - I won't have to work next week" and "I will be just like Sally Field in Norma Rae". Now do you get the reference? Anyway.  Currently in NYC there is the looming threat of a strike that really has me concerned. "The Broadway"...

Last week we shared with you the insider info on Jeff Whitty's (book writer for Avenue Q) new YouTube Project. It seems this clever and funny actor/writer has produced THREE clips. Parts II and III feature Saidah Arrika Ekulona (Bway's Wel...

First there was Fantasia. Now comes Lakisha. The Color Purple is starting to look like a reunion episode of American Idol. All we need now is for Simon Cowell to interrupt the proceedings in the middle of the Act I Finale and say "I'm just being honest..." The producers of the hit Broadway show The Color Purple (and you might remember that one of those producers is the Big O herself - Oprah!) announced some cast replacements yesterday. Among those joining the show will be Chaka Khan, BeBe Winans, and American Idol contestant Lakisha Jones. Lakisha will join on December 19th and the rest will come on board January 9th, 2008.  I do have a bit of a beef about the American Idol thing...

"The Broadway" is not for the faint of heart. Yesterday the producers of Lone Star Love, the new musical inspired by The Merry Wives of Windsor and featuring Randy Quaid in his Bway debut, announced that the show would not be making it's way to NYC. The show is off, cancelled, proving that theater can be a cruel cruel "lover".  Lone Star Love is currently finishing up its pre-Broadway try out in Seattle at the 5th Avenue Theatre, but the planned move to New York on November 1st will NOT take place. The move is shocking and unexpected. No one knows exactly what is going on, but there have been rumors surrounding the production. A recent article in the NY Post went to great length t...

Ok. Here is how it works. The Public Theatre in New York is an amazing institution. Every summer they make great theater available to the theater going public for FREE. The put on two main productions in Central Park (mostly Shakespeare) at The Delacorte Theatre. This past summer they put on productions of Romeo ...
