I wanted to bring you this bit of breaking news, right away...
The Broadway musical The Drowsy Chaperone announced today that it will close on December 30th, 2007. The production, currently starring Bob Saget and Cindy Williams, has played 674 performances and 32 previews. Directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw and produced by Kevin McCollum, Roy Miller, Boyett Ostar, Stephanie McClelland, Barbara Freitag and Jill Furman The Drowsy Chaperone leaves "the Broadway" with its head high and FIVE Tony Awards.
Original Musicals are rare on Broadway today, with a glut of movie musicals and revivals, but Chaperone beat the odds. The word on the street is that Cry-Baby (the new musical based on the movie by John Waters) will take up residence at the Marquis Theater once Drowsy shutters.
